It’s toward evening when I arrived Bamberg, my third station at Bavaria.
The Regnitz river, where Hegel met Napoléon Bonaparte, was just near the hotel I booked. So did Little Venice,on the north bank of the Regnitz.

Little Venice (Klein Venedig) was fisherman’s place in middle ages. They built these small, half-timbered houses, standing side-by-side line the shores of Regnitz, and planted many flowers on balconies. This colorful place was loved by churchman from Italy soon, and was called a nickename as “Little Venice” ,yeah, Nothing special.
Today, Little Venice is a good place for visiters. There are many small taverns, bars and restaurants. It’s also a good place to enjoy Smoke Beer(Rauchbier), a kind of Bamberg’s famous local brew, with friends.
I saw some young guys preparing their camp there, It’s a great idea to be a part of this place.
Best Time To Travel:
In August, Little Venice is the setting for the “Sandkerwa” festival. You can enjoy its Fischerstechen river jousting contest and Italian evening then.
