I was interesting in St Michael’s Church (Michaelskirche) because it’s a almshouses now. Though I didn’t meet any old people there, I learned something I couldn’t know from other travel guide fortunately.

The roof of the St Michael’s Church nave is very special. It has been painted 580 different kinds of plants since the 17th century. These include plants locally and from faraway countries, And you can find many of these plants in the herb gardens around the church.

You can find the tomb of Bishop Otto behind the altar. He died at 1443 in Bamberg . Don’t miss the hole in the middle of the tomb. It is said if you have backache or lumbago, Just crawl through the hole and you will recovery from diseases.

It’s a unique church which has a ghost room in the world. These white ghosts tell you the terrible story of the hell.
St Michael’s Church Guide
The Michaelskirche (Church of St Michael) in Bamberg is a 12th century church. It stands on the top of the highest hill of Bamberg. It can get great overlooking view of the town.
Eberhard ,The first bishop of Bamberg, founded the abbey of St Michael. The church is built in the Romanesque style.
In the 12th century the abbey flourished. This was the time of Bishop Otto of Bamberg. The abbey went through hard times during the wars around 1525. In the 17th and 18th centuries it went through better times again.
But when the bishops lost their political power in 1803, The monastery was secularized. There is now an almshouse there as well as a museum and municipal art collections.
