Zum Arabischen Coffe Baum(the Arabian Coffee Tree) seemed not as old as it should be.
It offered the best coffee in the city, as well as ice creams.

Opened in 1694, Zum Arabischen Coffe Baum is the oldest surviving coffee house and restaurant in Europe which has been continuously in operation.

During more than 300 years, It played a special roll at Europe history. many notable personages, especially artists, loved the coffee here. Gottsched, Klinger, E. T. A. Hoffmann, Wagner,Goethe, Lessing, Bach and Grieg were regular guests here. Between 1828 to 1844, Robert Schumann would meet with friends at his regular table, and It had musical associations since then.

Revolutionaries also love this place. Blum, Liebknecht and Bebel came in and out. In 1990, The meeting which discussed the possibilities of Germany reunification also held here.

But It’s also such a popular place. Everybody feel easy here, the coffee, the ice cream or the price, let you feel so relax.

But I knew that the oldest cafe is Kaveh Kanes found in Mekka, Sorry I don’t know it’s age.

I checked carefully and find it’s really a mistake. It’s not the oldest cafe, But the oldest surviving coffee house in Europe which has been continuously operation.

I also find Procope Cafe, The first coffee house in Paris, Opened in 1686. And in 1668, Boston opened it’s first coffee house.London Coffee House opened in 1691, They were all earlier than Zum Arabischen Coffe Baum.But maybe not continuously operation for some reasons.
