If you have chance to visit XinJiang,China, Don’t miss three Tuwa Villages at Kanas Lake in Buerjin County, Aletai Region. There are doubtless the most beautiful villages of North-West China. Kanas Lake and Tuwa people integrating with each other form the unique charm that you can’t miss.

The Kanas Natural Reserve(喀纳斯自然保护区) owns a beautiful natural ecosystem formed by lakes, rivers, glaciers, forests, and grasslands. Kanas means “beautiful, rich and mysterious” in Mongolian. The color of Kanas varies according to the seasons and weather. It allures visitors all over the world to come in different seasons.

Kanas is also the only place in China inhabited by Chinese Mongolian—Tuwa(图瓦) people. Over 1,400 Tuwa people live by the Kanas Lake. Tuwa people believe that they are the same ethnic group as the Tuwa people of the Tuwa Republic of Russia. Tuwa people keep their unique custom and language, and celebrate traditional Mongolian Aobao Festival, Zoulu Festival (Winter Festival), Spring Festival and Lantern Festival.

There are three villages you can track Tuwa people: Tuwa village(图瓦村), Hemu village(禾木村) and Baihaba village(白哈巴村). There are also the most beautiful villages of North-West China. Kanas Lake and Tuwa people integrating with each other form the unique charm that you can’t miss.

Kanas Nature Reserve Travel Guide:

Kanas is a nature reserve in the Altay mountains of northern Xinjiang. It lies in the southern Altay mountains near to the Chinese border with Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia.

Best time to go

Spring and autumn especially the middle of May and September
The hottest annual average temperature in July is 60.8F.

Ticket

Tickets are 240 yuan per person good for two days. The price is made up of 150 yuan of entrance fee and 90 yuan of unlimited bus ride within the park.

How To Get There

The nearest town to Kanas is Burqin (布尔津), approximately three hours away by car. There is also a small airport named Kanas Airport conecting the small town with Urumqi(乌鲁木齐), the Full price is 1, 000 yuan.

Travel Tips

1 Pay attention to the time! Some people use Beijing time, but some local people use local time, So it’s important to know which time they mean.
2 Be sure to take warmer clothes for the nights and always carry plenty of drinking water even in the cooler months.
3 The accommodation in and near the park is extremely expensive, You should prepare enough money for that, Or you can order a cheaper bed at Burqin.

    除了美食之外,我其实挺怕广州让你失望的。但是云南、新疆、西藏真的不同,除了独特的风景,你还能看到很多独特的人和生活方式。

    但是新疆和西藏这些年不够安全,非常的可惜。
