My Bach tour started from Bach’s cafe.

Bach’s cafe was just beside his last resting place, St Thomas Church. It’s a small cafe shop with normal appearance. But almost all foods here are saled with a packaging of Bach’s icon.

As one of Leipzig’s most famous Churchs, St Thomas’s Church hired Bach as the choirmaster for 27 years until his death. Mozart and Mendelssohn also performed here as well, and Richard Wagner was christened here in 1813. It was also here in 1539 that Martin Luther preached the implementation of the Reformation.

The St. Thomas Boys Choir is still singing here. Visitors from all over the world come to Leipzig to hear a motet from this Choir, Not only because it’s one of the oldest and most famous boys’ choirs in Germany. But also because one of Bach’s Leipzig responsibilities was the education of this Choir.

Bach’s monument, outside St Thomas’ Church, is just face the Bach’s cafe. The Bach’s sculpture was besigned as the state he was get ready to start his preform. But at the same time, Bach is showing his empty pocket to the whole world, as if he is saying: How poor I am! Today, Bach already gained all the respects he should get. Every the summer, German and International musicians offer free outdoor concerts to commemorate him at 19:00pm every Monday evening there.

The competition to be in that boy’s choir must be fierce. I see a reality show in the making.
