Let’s Travel Back To See How The Earth Changed Though Google Earth

26 March 2009 54 Comments

The Earth hour is arriving on 28th March 2009 @ 20:30 to 21:30! Are you one of supporters?
Thank so much for , It added many historical photos to let us know how the Earth changed these years, And why we should do something for it and for ourselves.

as it looked in 1973, before the onset of desertification.

The Aral Sea, 2008: Here’s how the Aral Sea looks today. Scientists estimate that over the last four decades, the sea’s surface area has shrunk by approximately 60%, and its volume by 80%.

, 1999: Evidence of global warming is starkly apparent in before-and-after pictures of the in the Antarctic, above, in 1999.

Larsen Ice Shelf, 2007:By 2007, the melting of ice is obvious, particularly in the area near the tip of the peninsula, where an ice shelf approximately the size of Rhode Island has disintegrated.

We can also see how the earth chaned in other ways:

, 1950: Before Sin City rose, this patch of Nevada was little more than desert.

Las Vegas, 2008: Vegas is a glittering beacon of commercial success and development.

If you want know more, PlS visit Time’s Photos report: Google Earth Adds Historical Photos.

Or you can try on Google Earth.

Awesome pics, however I would really like to see some historical pics of the Amazon Jungle and other forests over the years. That should be really sobering, as deforestation is like ridding our planet of her lungs.

iWalk reply on March 30th, 2009 12:23 pm:

Yeah, I read some sad reports about Amazon,That’s the disaster of Amazon, and the disaster of ourselves too!

    Hi iWalk,

How’s my favorite back packer doing? Hope all is well and looking better than ever :) I strongly support the movement to fight the destruction of Mother earth. This is all we have and even if we did have the power to go to another planet this is where we as humans were born. Nothing beats home and earth is and always will be our home. Destroying it will only cause us more harm than anything. Cause we will be destroying us in the process. sigh :) but on the lighter side after seeing the response of the earth hour movement last saturday there is definitely hope. :) tight hugs from over here ;) xoxo

Yeah, Maybe the Earth is no longer fit for us after 50 years, Just as the story happens in Wall-E.

Ships reply on April 5th, 2009 7:35 pm:

Yes you are right. This might be the reson.
PS. Wall-E is absolutely one of the best movies I have seen. I use to watch it on my night watches in the office and maybe that is why I like it so much.
