The Earth hour is arriving on 28th March 2009 @ 20:30 to 21:30! Are you one of supporters?
Thank so much for , It added many historical photos to let us know how the Earth changed these years, And why we should do something for it and for ourselves.

the-aral-sea-1973
as it looked in 1973, before the onset of desertification.

the-aral-sea2008
The Aral Sea, 2008: Here’s how the Aral Sea looks today. Scientists estimate that over the last four decades, the sea’s surface area has shrunk by approximately 60%, and its volume by 80%.

larsen-ice-shelf1999
, 1999: Evidence of global warming is starkly apparent in before-and-after pictures of the in the Antarctic, above, in 1999.

larsen-ice-shelf2007
Larsen Ice Shelf, 2007:By 2007, the melting of ice is obvious, particularly in the area near the tip of the peninsula, where an ice shelf approximately the size of Rhode Island has disintegrated.

We can also see how the earth chaned in other ways:

las-vegas1950
, 1950: Before Sin City rose, this patch of Nevada was little more than desert.

las-vegas2008
Las Vegas, 2008: Vegas is a glittering beacon of commercial success and development.

Awesome pics, however I would really like to see some historical pics of the Amazon Jungle and other forests over the years. That should be really sobering, as deforestation is like ridding our planet of her lungs.

    Hi iWalk,

How’s my favorite back packer doing? Hope all is well and looking better than ever :) I strongly support the movement to fight the destruction of Mother earth. This is all we have and even if we did have the power to go to another planet this is where we as humans were born. Nothing beats home and earth is and always will be our home. Destroying it will only cause us more harm than anything. Cause we will be destroying us in the process. sigh :) but on the lighter side after seeing the response of the earth hour movement last saturday there is definitely hope. :) tight hugs from over here ;) xoxo
