Does Your Doggie Envy Too?

Dachshund Leo lives with me for one and half a year now. I believe he feels very happy in most of time. Because he know I love him so much.
But I was astonished to find that he also easy to envy another doggies I like.

We met a Golden Retriever named Coco last time. Two doggies played together very happy for some time as usual.

when we left, I huged Coco to say goodbye. Leo suddenly feel very angry, He barked loudly and wanted fight with Coco. He seemed never conside that Coco was much biger than himself.

It’s the first time I know that Leo does envy too!

Dear friends, What can I do with this situation, How can I help him get rid of this bad temper?

Leo is a very loyal dog, who loves u a lot. This situation reminded me of my family 1st dog, a male silky terrier (now in dog heaven).

I feel this is Leo’s character, loyal and loving…. showing Coco that he is your Number One dog …. although we can’t deny that there is a bit of jealousy/envy that Leo showed towards Coco.

Maybe when a similar situation happen again, speak into Leo’s ears your love, hug/cuddle him. As for my silky terrier, his character is fiercely loyal and naughty and very noisy when we have guests !

Oh btw, Leo is so cute ! I want to hug him !!

Your kindly words let me miss Leo so much!

I am already in my parents’ home now. It’s too bad that I can’t enjoy new years holiday together with Leo.

I will let Leo know how much I love him as your suggestion next time.

I had some dogs when I was about three to seven, but as far as I remember they’re not that jealous easily. It seems that Leo loves you very much that he doesn’t want you to turn your attention to others. What a sweet, but take the fact, that’s Leo .

I often think maybe Leo need a family. If I have three or more doggies, they know they are a big family, maybe they will not envy each other any more. They are sharing the love!

Leo’s necklace is a souvenir I brought from Tibet. He fit the color of red and blue.

Yeah, I want hug him too this moment! Because I already flew back to Chengdu to enjoy new year holiday with my parents.

You will just have to take some tips from The Dog Whisperer about that. I dont’ know if they have that program where you live, but he’s good with jealous dogs.

Yeah, Diva, They told me the best way to change this situation was have one more doggie. He need brother or sister live together to let him know they can share the love of parents.

You love his necklace too? That’s the false turquoise and red coral necklace I bought from Barkhor Street, Lhasa,Tibet.

My dog Woody has quite a temper too, especially when we are getting ready to leave the house in the morning. He actually growls at us and even heads upstairs to avoid our final goodbye. When we get home every afternoon he howls like a wolf. My recommendation to dog owners with moody dogs-just ignore them. When I started ignoring Woody’s bad behavior, the behavior improved. Prince was my first dog, when I brought Cherry home, he was a little jealous. But now they are fine.
I think it depend of what kind of dogs you have. Golden Retriever is a big dog, they are more clever and very close and loyal to the owner..
I think Leo is very lovely and loyal to you.. seeing your love to coco make him so jealous. I’m agree with what JH said. Perhaps you need to spare some time with Leo and show him that although now you have coco, you still love him as much as before you have coco
