Sensō-ji, Tokyo’s Oldest Temple
The day I visited Sensō-ji is not a fine day. But it still crowd with worshipers.
I heared that the famous enterpriser Konosuke Matsushita, the founder of Panasonic, also venerated the Kannon statue here. There is a big paper lantern donated by Konosuke Matsushita at the temple’s Thunder Gate.

You should clean yourself before veneration.

Many people love to ask for fate oracles. The fate oracles here have both Japanese and English annotates.

They leave their fate oracles here, pray for good luck.

It’s also a place attracted many young people. This pretty girl was busy taking photos with her professional equipments.
It’s said two fishermen found a statue of the Kannon in the Sumida River in 628. The master of them, Hajino Nakamoto, thought it special and enshrined it by donated his own house into a small temple. That’s Sensō-ji (Kinryū-zan Sensō-ji in full name), the oldest temple in Tokyo.
The blessings of the Kannon gradually received a high reputation throughout Japan, more and more people came to Sensō-ji venerated the statue.
During World War II, the temple was bombed and for the most part destroyed. It was rebuilt later and became a place to worship the peace to the Japanese people.
