God of Fortune is Coming, A Chinese Song Of Happy New Year

30 December 2008 48 Comments

Today is 30 Dec,2008. New year is coming!
I specially choose one of my favorite Cantonese song named “ is Coming” for all my friends. Hope you a happy and lucky new year!

This song is somewhat classical. You can hear it everywhere in Cantonese area during Chinese new year season.

Chinese like God of Fortune(财神 in chinese) very much. “The God of Fortune is coming” means a great beginning of a new year.

As , On the eve of Chinese New Year, almost all the Chinese will invite the God of Fortune to their house. Chinese believes the God of Fortune will bring them wealth and good luck throughout the year.

From the lyrics, The God of Fortune tell us:

  • A good people will always have good luck;
  • We should gain money with legal way;
  • You should work hard, So that the god of forune can notice you;
  • When you hear this song, you will forget all the trouble things;

This song was written by Sam Hui, The best known star in the Cantopop and movie industry in Hong Kong from the 1960s to 1990s. This song was published in 1978 and soon became the symbol of Chinese New year song.

Hope it bring a happy new year to you!

    Hi there!!

    As the end of 2008 is drawing near,
    Gone are Santa and his reindeers,
    And we all switch to high gears,
    To celebrate the countdown of the coming year.

    I want to let you know you’re a great blogger,
    So much so that I’ve made myself an Entrecarder,

    So before you get drunk with that last glass of beer,
    Waiting for 2009 to appear,
    Let me wish you now and here,
