Castle is much smaller than Beijing old city or Xi’an old city, But it’s one of the most famous castles in Japan, It had played a major role in the unification of Japan during the sixteenth century.

tenshukaku, Main Tower of Castle, destroyed in 1615, Restored in1997.

The 30 meters high steep walls were made of huge blocks of stone that were transported to from quarries over 100 kilometers away.

The Castle was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, a well-known warlord who unificated the whole Japan in the late 16th century. It contains thirteen structures which were designated as Important Cultural Assets by the Japanese government.

Different from other old cities, Castle was built on two layer of steep walls that rise close to 30 meters high, each overlooking a moat. The walls and the moats buildup a grand sight, And looks especially beautiful in Red Leaves Season.

    Yes, Heather.

    It’s not a peaceful place.

As Japan National Tourist Organization’s introduction: It has been burned down in a series of battles in the 17th century, and reconstructed later. Once again it was destroyed by fire, its donjon only reduced to ashes this time, and was reconstructed at last early in the 20th century.

Yeah, I think Japan is a country worth to research. It’s modern enough, But also quite traditional at the same time.

There is something so elegant about Japanese castles with their upturned roofs and balance with nature.
