It is an automatic Rifle (5.56mm) and is the standerd Indervidual Weapon (Rifle) used in training and combat by the Brittish Army and Royal Marines. Some soldiers may carry the SA80 L86A2 LSW</a> (or Light Support Weapon), which is now used as a 'sharp-shooters' weapon, or the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FN_Minimi" rel="nofollow">minimi LMG (FN Minimi)</a> in both para(L110A1) and standerd(L108A1) varients. The American version of the Minimi LMG was known as the M249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon), but now it is also called a Light Machine Gun (M249 LMG). There is also another version of the SA80 used by Cadet Forces: the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L98_Cadet_Rifles" rel="nofollow">L98A1</a> (note it was introduced in the nignties; not eighties, and is still version 1; not 2), this weapon is almost identical to the L85A1 IW (the old Standerd Rifle, main diference is the cocking-handle), but it does not contain gas-parts, or a fire select switch, and can only fire manualy (cock for each shot), wearas the L85/L86 can fire both semi-automatic and automatic. I would never have thought in this day and age that the guards were wearing real fur. I think it's horrible but on the same token I wouldn't recommend that they wear synthetic fabrics!
