The whole World is focusing on Bird’s Nest and Water Cube in Beijing these Olympic games days. Bird’s Nest is one of amazing originality in my eyes. But the design of Water Cube is somewhat like Allianz Arena, And I think Allianz Arena is much clear.

After seeing the photos of Allianz Arena, I decided I should visited it even though I only had three hours plane transfer time in Munich.

The Allianz Arena is home to two professional Munich football clubs, FC Bayern Munich and TSV 1860 Munich. During the 2006 World Cup it was known as FIFA World Cup Stadium Munich. As the most importent sponsor, Allianz purchased the rights to name the stadium for 30 years.

The arena facade is constructed of 2,874 ETFE-foil air panels that are kept inflated with dry air with a differential pressure. The panels appear white from far away but when viewed close up from inside, it is possible to see through the foil.

Allianz Arena is also the only stadium in the world that has a full changing color outside. Each panel can be independently lit with white, red, or blue light. It is lit up in red when Bayern Munich play, in blue when 1860 Munich play and in white when in use by the German National Team. That’s one of reason I like this football stadium.

Finally, I found a bottle of seeds were sold as a gift at the fans shop of Allianz Arena. That’s the same glass seeds with the greensward of Allianz Arena. What a great idea!
