8.0-Magnitude Earthquake,Only 30 Kilometers To My Parents’ Home

Tiny told me she feel shake at 14:36pm this afternoon. Untill 15:08:17, we knew that the earthquake center was more than 1,500 kilometers (930 miles) away from Tiny’s office in Beijing.
A terrible magnitude-8.0 earthquake happened in Wen chuan at 14:28 pm this afternoon, 90 kilometers west-northwest of Chengdu(Capital of Sichuan province), That’ s only 30 kilomaters to HanWang, where my parents live.
But we already lost all the communications with them then. And still now.

I kept on calling all my friends in Sichuan, But all the communications was down.

I could only know some news from internet that there were 44 more times earthquakes happened after that untill 17:00pm. Nearly 900 students have been buried…

Barnabe connected my father’s cell phone for about 10 seconds, Then we losted connection again. It’s great to know my parents are safe. But there are still several more dangerous days ahead. I want see them at once but the ChenDu airport was closed after the earthquake.

The only thing I can do is pray.

Read about the earthquake from my country, I understand the anxiety on your friends safety.

I already heared many bad news about the HanWang, The beautiful old town where I was born. It’s only about 70 KM from the earthquake center. Many buildings collapsed, Including some my childhood friends’ houses.

My parents’ house there was hurted badly and couldn’t live any longer. My parents already left there and moved to our home in Chengdu this evening. I’m glad to know they are safe in home now.

But the news from People said all the houses in HanWang already collapsed this time. That should including my parents’ house which they had lived for 20 years.

Still not got some friends’ information. The cell phone still not work too.

I hope I can do something useful.

I saw the news earlier on CNN and then a local station here in Hamilton where I lived interviewed a few students at McMaster University who had friends (students as well from Mac) who were currently home (where the earthquake hit) since school is out now for the summer. I really hope things work out for you and everyone affected.

Many moblie base stations were damaged because of the earthquake, We lost normal communication temporarily with disaster-affected area.

They can’t receive a phone call, but SMS is Okay somewhere.

Hope they can get good information soon.

It was all over the news on TV in Norway too of course and what a tragedy! I’m so glad to hear you are okay and that your parents seems to be find too.

I saw news online that many dead people were temporarily put on the playground of my elementary school. That’s only 20 meters to my parents’ house.

Some people I knew were still buried under ruin. I hope they can get over all of that.
