Routes:
Now the cable cars run on three routes.

  • * Powell-Hyde : From Market and Powell to Aquatic Park. Goes past Union Square, the Barn Museum, Nob Hill, Russian Hill, Lombard (crookedest) Street, ends at Ghirardelli Square
  • * Powell-Mason : From Market and Powell to Bay and Taylor Streets. Goes through North Beach. Ends near Fisherman’s Wharf
  • * California Street: Runs East-West from the Financial District, through Chinatown, over Nob Hill and stops at Van Ness Avenue.

Fares:
adult fee: 5 US dollars (USD). You can ride for a dollar before 7 a.m.
If you stay long time enough in , you can purchase a monthly fast pass, which allows you to ride buses, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), and streetcars, as well as cable cars.

Barn & Powerhouse:
At Barn & Powerhouse,you can view:

  • *the actual cable winding machinery
  • *the path of the cable entering the building and leaving underneath the street in the sheave room viewing area.
  • *various mechanical devices, such as grips, track, trucks, cable and brake mechanisms with corresponding explanations
  • *three antique cable cars : a Sutter street dummy and trailer, and the first (1873).
  • * a photo narration of the reconstruction effort 1982-1984.

How to Get There:
The best way to get to the powerhouse is by . Street parking for automobiles is nearly non-existent. The closest MUNI bus lines are the 1 & 30

Open every day of the year with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day
